Salt Lake City Neighborhoods

Are you looking for a house for sale in Salt Lake City?  It has never been a better time to purchase property in Salt Lake City, but as with any city, location is what it’s all about.  Salt Lake City has a number of different neighborhoods, and finding the one that is right for you is the first step in finding your new home.

Below are some of the most popular neighborhoods in Salt Lake City and a bit about each one.  Of course, reading about them is just the first step.  You’ll want to actually drive through the area first to see if you really love it.  This is also not a comprehensive guide – these are some of the hottest neighborhoods, but they are not by any means all of them.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Rose Park

For those who imagine their dream house coming with a large back yard and a white picket fence, Rose Park may be the location for you.  The soil is incredible, which means your yard and flowerbeds will really shine.  Most houses have large yards, but its proximity to downtown means you do not have far to go for shopping or work.  This is one of the fastest growing areas of Salt Lake City.  While the area did have a reputation for being a bit seedy, the recent rejuvenation has helped turn it around and brought new life to Rose Park.

Glendale

Glendale is home to many of Salt Lake City’s immigrant population, and its ethnic diversity is a draw for many.  It’s home to a huge variety of cultures.  Glendale is found on the west side of Salt Lake City and is comparable in pricing to other nearby neighborhoods.  If you are looking for an area full of unique, locally owned shops and restaurants, Glendale is ideal for you.

The Avenues

The Avenues is home to the Southern Temple and several other amazing churches, but it’s also home to some great homes.  This is one of the more expensive areas of Salt Lake City, and you’ll see a number of large houses here.  That’s not to say everyone here is rich, of course.  In fact, you will find The Avenues has a very close-knit community where few look down on their neighbors no matter what social strata they may belong to.  It is trendy, too.  While it’s not the perfect neighborhood for everyone, it may be right for you.

Sugar House

Sugar House features many bungalow style homes.  Many of these are older homes that were built in the early 1900s, but many have been maintained very well.  In fact, the entire neighborhood has been undergoing a renovation.  What this means for homebuyers is that some streets may have renovated, beautiful homes that are priced competitively or even a bit higher than other neighborhoods, while those streets that haven’t been renovated may have cheaper houses that require some work.  These homes are definitely worth looking at, though, because many feature unique architecture and little details that give them personality.

Federal Heights

Federal Heights is another area where house prices are going to be higher than average.  It is a beautiful part of Salt Lake City with some amazing views, but many of these houses are going to be out of some people’s price range.  However, there are some very affordable housing (especially for students) near the University of Utah.  Nevertheless, because the university’s football team has a very loyal following, be aware that living near the football field may mean a lot of noise on game nights.
